Congrats on your new hearing loop purchase and taking the first step in the direction of a more satisfying hearing experience. While it may have been a challenge to find the ideal system from among all the great options out there, it should be easier for you to install your hearing loop after you get it home and out of the box. The good news is, a professional is not required to install a hearing loop in your home, as the steps are rather straightforward.
Getting organized. Most hearing loop systems have 4 primary parts — an amplifier box, the wire loop, the product you want to hear more clearly (such as the television) and your sound receiver (hearing aid or the device that came with your system). Before jumping into your new project, make sure you have all the tools you might need to install your home hearing loop system. It will be very helpful to have staple gun and a screwdriver accessible.
The work involved. The first step is to attach your amplifier in close proximity to your TV set with the screws included with your system or merely position it next to your television.Next, plug in the adapter’s power cable into an outlet and the free cable into the audio output jack your TV. Step three–the last step–is to string the wire loop along the room’s perimeter, securing it with staples either under the carpet, along the baseboard or flush against the top of the wall. You’re done. Wasn’t that easy?
The last thing left to do is modify the volume settings according to hearing loop system manufacturer’s instructions. These controls can be located on the amplifier itself or on a separate device or remote depending on the hearing loop system’s design.
Safety tip. Keep your hearing loop away from water sources (sinks, vases or aquariums) or moist areas. Always use a dry, clean cloth to clean the components of your new hearing loop. Also ensure that the loop is far from heat sources, such as space heaters, fireplaces or even other electronics. Be sure your loop system is set up in a location with plenty of ventilation to avoid overheating it.
